Today was supposed to be an off day but it got nice out, so i guess tomorrow will be instead. A short 20 mile spin, stopped at the shop to give Mark some donuts for loaning his fork to me. Got a weekly social ride out of the Delafield store starting this Monday at 5:30p. Bring your slow bike and it'll be fun. Doc ride Saturday, 8AM- be there or be square. Or, ride in with us at 7- be here or be queer. Maybe pop a century or two this weekend. Interested, hit me up.

Overhead doors open at work today. Rained everywhere but here. Singlespeed property browsing in shorts and a t-shirt. Going rate of duplex's in the LC: $270k. May have to start my empire elsewhere. Westward Ho?

Another beautiful mid 60's day. I think everyone who owns a bicycle was out today. Caught up with Mr. Corbin, my old HS biology teacher, out on a ride today, another quick one before dark. Thankfully, daylight savings starts this weekend and with it, all the weekday group training rides. After riding, Josh and i went to La Estacion where i took down the big burrito and a gorditta. It's starting to feel like summer again.

By far the nicest day of the year. A quick ride before dark, then grabbed the SS w/lights and rode to my parents for steaks on the barby. Even on the ride home it was still like 50 degrees out. Cracked the windows in my apartment when i left so it was filled with spring freshness upon my return. Hope this is the real deal. Melt snow melt!

Went to bed at 9:30 last night, woke up early amped to ride. As i was cleaning my bike this morning i noticed a 1/4in. long crack in the fork where the carbon crown and leg are bonded together. It's been about 6 months since i've had to warranty something from Trek, so i guess i'm due again, anyway, it would be fine through todays ride. Rolled out and hooked up with the group out of Pewaukee to the Doc ride. Thought i'd be trashed after yesterdays effort but i felt good. The pace picked up through the first series of hills, some fast riders were sitting in and the guys who were showing off weren't going to go anywhere. Out of about 30 riders only 5-7 of us consistently pulled once it settled. Nothing crazy, just kept the pace steady and fast. After the ride i stopped at Wheel to show them my fork. Fortunately, they had a carbon fork lying around i could use in the meantime, so we switched it out and off i went.

On the way home i still felt pretty good. I'd planned on making a century out of it with T-bone, but he flaked out today. Figured i'd cut while i was ahead, two good effort 70 mile days already made this a good weekend, and i'll have enough energy to enjoy Mike's bonfire tonight out in B.F.E.

Worked till noon. Three and a half hour ride, thirty mile stretch of headwind. Shower, spaghetti, icecream, rest. Pet the cats. Wisconsin makes Elite 8!

Wow, talk about hightened awareness. Been wanting to do this for awhile and finally got around to it. Hooked up a 15t track cog on my singlespeed. First time really trying fixed gear. It's been pretty fun so far, it'll take me another day or so before i'm confident enough to take it offroad. There was this one time when we were kids, my friend Scott and i rode street on our BMX bikes. Scott's freewheel stripped out and he didn't have money for a new one, so he welded it together. That was pretty sketchy, a fix'd BMX bike! I also installed a 36t chainring so i'm not spinning 800rpm all the time. Wheel got in some new TopFuel 98's and EX's which are pretty sweet.

Jane from Alphawings just started a team blog. Right now there is an explanation of the Alpha-1 disease posted but eventually it will be used to post team news and up to date race results. I'll post a link, so check it out now, then check it out later. Later.

Longer days Posted by Hello
Planned on an hour, turned into two. Ran into T-bone so i rode with him for awhile. No headlight tonight, got home before dark for once. Expecting some parts tomorrow that should spice up my mountain bike experience. Have to go house sit my parents cats now.

UPDATE: About the video i posted last night. The dude lived and actually crawled out and finished the ride! The whole story is here.

Busted out a couple hours tonight, hit the Lake 5 area, almost got lost. Ya know, when you kinda think you know where you are so you just ride until something looks familiar. Crazy roads and some wicked hills out there, good for midnight rally! Felt sluggish for about the first hour, maybe it was the NE wind, or all the food i ate last night. Had a tailwind home, clicked to the 53t and poured it on, felt good, nice to be outside again.

If this guy lived, he must've been hurtin'. Whoa!

June's was fun, it was taco night and everyone was there, my parents, Grandma, June, Jim, Dan, Kristen, Mike and all their pets! Was that a "shout-out"? So what if it was, they all hooked me up with exactly what i wanted- CASHMONEY! No really, Thanks, you guys are the best!

Today was nice out but it was a well needed off day. Hopefully the weather stays nice or even improves so i can get some real outdoor riding in the rest of the week. Noticed tonight this site finally registers on some search engines, it's about time! Thanks to everyone who's been checkin' it out. Check ya later.

Watching the mains you didn't make from the sidelines sucks. Didn't even make the semi today. Guess you get out what you put in. Just look forward to the mtb season now. Rode the SS around town when i got home, felt good to be on a big bike again. I wish the d@mn snow would melt so the trails could open. Nate took 5th and Ray took home the big trophy again, congrats! Turned 27 today, going to Aunt June's tomorrow for a little b-day dinner/family get together. Later.

BMX 3.19

Fun racing but poor results. Edged out of open, blown out of class. Alot of fast out-of-towners showed up and i know some more fast locals should be there tomorrow. Maybe with enough static i can pull something off. Not running open so only one shot in class.

Props to Ray for taking his second win today, still workin' the oldschool Diamondback!

After racing, Michelle, our team manager thew a pizza party for the team at a local restaurant. It was fun hanging out with the Hilliards again and talking to "Guido" about pro racing. After turning pro a few months ago, he seems more focused and determined then ever to succeed. It was also good to see Ed(Michelle's husband) back at the races and i hope he's doing better. All in all it was a good night, just gotta try harder tommorow.

BMX 3.18

Rode well and avoided first turn carnage in both mains, 2nd in open, 4th in class. Experts been tough lately since i haven't been training for it like i used too, so i'll take top 4 whenever i can. Sat/Sunday will be nuts, double and triple points, everyone will be there, just try to make the mains and see what happens from there. Another band of snow moving in so probably no Doc ride(again), looks like another AM trainer session(ughh).

Other's results: Ray-3rd in open(right behind me!), 4th in class; Nate- 5th in cruiser, Jay- 6th in cruiser edging out Dan(7th) in a good race.

Gotta get to sleep and do it all again tomorrow.

I don't drink and i'm not Irish, so for me it's just Thursday. A short jaunt along the Bark River, Chef Boyardee, the O.C., laundry. Redline Cup weekend starts tomorrow. 3 days of BMX action to close out the indoor season. Outside, it looks like spring has no intention of starting anytime soon. Another 1-3" tonight? Good weekend for indoor i guess.

Did you get out today? Was it good for you too? Left when it was light out, finished when it was dark. Hope it was worth it, looks like winter returns tomorrow.

Dinner was great, afterwards had to pick up some groceries. Incase you didn't know, 8-9pm on weeknights is when all the single ladies are doing there shopping, and tonight the Pick 'N' Save did not disappoint as it was well stocked with some fine a$$ LC tail. As the cashier's shuffling my 95 bucks worth of bachelor cuisine over the scanner an attractive blonde with just some tofu and yogurt or something gets in line behind me. I pay by check, delaying the process a little more. As i'm bagging my stuff i apolgize to the young woman(about my age) for holding her up. She says it's OK and then wishes me a good night.

Yeah, like i'm gonna mack on some chick in a grocery store. That's what bike races are for!

All lit up. Posted by Hello
SUV's with HID's rev as they pass me by, i don't mind, they're just envious of the 27-inch blades i roll on. Got out kind of late tonight. Made a 14 mile loop that stuck close to home and rode it twice. Snow started to come down pretty good the last few miles, atleast i got something in, no ride tomorrow, errands and dinner at Aunt June's again. Posted a link to Jay's blog, check it out.

Slept in, did some dishes, watched "Ski School", finally mapped out this years training shedule, then sat on the trainer until Jimmy Johnson crossed the finish line. Think he's gonna take it this year. Later, rode over to my parents for lasagna and "Silence of the Lambs". Sounds like WORS was well represented at BMX today, Nate-4th in cruiser, Jay & Dan-6th & 7th in cruiser and Ray-2nd in class. Congrats! Redline triple-header next weekend. I'm pumped!

Man, what's with all the crime lately? Friday a paper carrier in Waukesha gets stabbed and the police shoot the suspect, then today some nut shoots up a church gathering at the Sheraton in Brookfield, killing 7 people, himself and wounding 4 others. Violent weekend.

Glazing Posted by Hello
Riding was a bit harsh today. 27 my a$$, wind chill must of been around 5. The LC trail had the powder-atop-ice mix, so i ended up riding the old commute. The roads were a wet/slush mix and the wind was blistering cold, so it wasn't as blissful as last weekend. Spring can start any time now, please. Unfortunately, this weeks forecast doesn't look to promising.

Going out for wings later, a little early B-day celebration.

It's Friday so check this out, then go find something fun to do.

Thursday, March 10, 2005

Missed out on some good woot this morning, speakers are always sold out by 6AM. Looks like Winters not going out without a fight. The roads are a mess and beneath the innocent looking snow is solid ice. Found this out as i was on my way to some local trails on the singlespeed today. Crashed once at about 2mph, further along, almost lost it again at a pretty good clip. Trails would've been just as bad, so i bailed, good day to be lazy. See what this weekend brings.

Errands, bank>Wheel&Sproket>T-bones>parents>milk. 24 degrees, silent roll of Michelin Pros, sneak preview of '06 sram stuff, T-bones rear D. is tweaked, home cookin', tailwind- big ring, stand up and stay warm, punch card is full- free gallon next time around!

BTW: comments tab should work now. Sorry and thanks.

Sent in my Cheq 40 registration and signed up for the whole WORS season , so i guess i'm commited. First time entering Chequamegon, would be cool to get in. Cleaned up the road bike and the BMX so they're good to go. MTB is ready as well: Shocks overhauled, fresh brake fluid, new cables. Haven't gotten to the dishes yet though, you know- priorities.

Bad experiment. Posted by Hello

Umm, no thank you, i'll pass on tonights leftovers. Going to Aunt June's again for dinner, much obliged. Weathers back to cold. I don't mind though, taking an R&R week, cleaning salty bikes. Hope it warms up by the weekend. Heard from Matt G, he took 7th at a road race in Ohio, props to him. Wonder how Parkside Crits went, not sure if i'm up for road racing this year. Gotta go.

Today rocked! Went out at 9A, rode the long Tuesday night route backwards, wind was brutal on the way out, stopped home for lunch at noon, then headed south for some more miles. Everyone was out riding on Waterville Rd. Hooked up with this kid Warren, found out he races Sport in WORS, that's awsome 'cuz it's hard to find other mountain bikers around here. A little further up we met up with T-bone and rode for another hour and a half, just chillin' out. The weather was so nice i didn't want to stop. Now i'm at my parents watching the Paris-Nice TT with the windows open, later we're going out for pasta. It just doesn't get any better!

The end, start over. Posted by Hello
AM: wet & sleeting. Blow off the Doc ride and grab the single. 32:16 sucks on the road but works in the snow. Ride & trudge the LC trail, packed sections- fast, others- soft. On the way back, bailed on Hwy E, dry roads! 1PM: home/soup/sandwich, then back out. A couple more hours on the road bike, checked out Holy Hill. Beautiful day.

Got my WORS book and finally figured out my mtb schedule for this year. Going for another full season of WORS, four 6Hr. solo WEMS events, and a few other races in between. With WORS as a priority, i was dissapointed to find a couple of scheduling conflicts, forcing me to miss two events i had been looking forward to, the Trek 100 (WI Rapids weekend) and Rockford BMX National (Wausau weekend). These were normally nice breaks from mountain bike racing, so i'll have to build in some "off" weeks. Still excited about this year though: 2 "tune up" races at the end of April, then 6 in a row from May-June, then tapering to 3 a month til the end of the season. Should work out pretty good.

Didn't feel like riding in the cold today. Sat on the trainer for a couple hours, watched "Lost" and learned about jet streams on welfare TV. Tomorrow should be warmer (30's?), time to get back outside!

So it's March but it's still freezing out. T-bone and i went to Transition to spin but no one else showed up so we said F' it. Came back, plugged in the Sheboygan WORS DVD, set up and spun here instead, remeniscing about the past season and anticipation of the new WORS racer handbooks. Yes, the light at the end of the tunnel should be near.
