We are putting together the 2nd Annual New Years Eve Townie Bar Tour of Waukesha.

Some minor details--This year NYE is on a Saturday, So way may start up as early as 6pm.

The meet-up will be at The Cooler off of Main street on Martin Avenue behind El Palmar, there is a public parking lot nearby between the Ace Hardware on Main Street and Barstow.

These bars will not have a cover or require a dress code. Bring folding money 99% of these places don't even know credit cards exist.

Many of these bars are used to shady characters so we should all fit in.

Ronsta and I have started to recon some new candidates for the ride, but we will include some favorites from last year.

The weather will determine the radius of the NYETBT.

No Minors/Not a Club Event.

Bring a cheap lock, your nicest whip, and a light.

While most headed North, South was closer for me. New faces, different scene, didn't know what to expect. Started 2nd row and just barely got through a start line pile up. Hammer up to top ten in the prologue loop, followed a tricky wheel into the first single track and the gaps were set. The course was part road race, part super D, and all fun. The 2:1 was maxed on both ends. Rode with Kevin Klug and John Gatto the second half before pulling away for 7th. Great time in IL and hope to be back!

This race never gets easier, it just makes you better. I came in with the best legs I've had in awhile and a top notch team ready to go. MuddyPaws put together a super fun course that the weather would wreak havoc on throughout the weekend. We started off not too hot with a few early mechanicals keeping me from redlining off the bat. After Adam got things dialed in I started to put down some time. 5 laps in and a thunderstorm stopped the race. Chris Strout was the only other one to finish his 5th lap 9 minutes behind me. I've raced Chris back when he was a midwesterener and knew I could never count him out.

2 hours later we restart headfirst into a mudfest. Opting for black shorts and a thick chamois, I find Chris' wheel for the first few miles before going to work again. Rode hard throughout the day as the course slowly improved. Night laps went alright as a decline slowly crept in from the days effort. Chris started plugging some good laps and chipped away at the 27min lead I had built, coming to within a couple minutes. He was on the attack. 3:30AM: Needing to snap out of my lull, I handed my bike off to my team for a freshening while I took a shower and and downed some spaghetti. I gambled Chris was near the end of his second wind and it was time to counter. Cleanded up, I was able to put some solid laps into the dawn. The sunrise lap is always a sweet part of the race but the downside is once the morning sets in you just want the race to be over. The efforts we put in paid off and extended my lead, but after you blow through a late race effort the last couple laps drag on. To add to the misery a brief downpour came through a little after 8am, remuddying the course and adding additional irritation to already irritable places.

No one wants to do their last lap. You know you have to, but you don't want to. I came in at 9:20. Chris headed out at quarter-to. If he was on, he could make it in for another. I had to finish after 10:00, so it was off for a final lap. I rode with the sixth place guy for half a lap before riding away. This is alway the hardest part of the race. You just want the thing to be over, you know the best way is to make it as quick as possible but your just to beat to ride any faster than you need to. About 10:30 I finally crossed the finish line. While it was my third solo win, it was my first time winning the Open class, so it was more meaningful, especially against a tough competitor like Chris. I have to thank everyone who came to support at the race this year, my parents for pitting and bringing the RV, Adam for wrenching, Tbone for his help, Derek(who rode to 3rd in Solo SS!) and his GF Shannon for keeping my legs tuned and everyone else who cheered on, it was a great time and it all helped! Also thanks to the guys at Hayes/Answer/Manitou for their great products, event sponsor Salsa for making race winning bikes and Muddy Paws for another great event! See ya'll there next year!

32:19 + Superfans = 38th place FINISH among North America's best. Summer has begun and the Ramble was a hot one. A good crew of a dozen or so along with a small rotating cast of Jim R, OTB Dave, Vicki, and Sug who tracked us down in Sussex. The Parade was short the ride was long and the tan lines are burned in for the year. Shannon rode a FS, Tim rode flat pedals, Jonsie rode fixed, Dave rode moustache bars, Carlos pulled Carlitos and Bubba didn't walk until the end. I ruined the ride with the only flat. Afterwards, the Blatz lasted til sunset and my deck survived another holiday. Thanks to everyone who came out and especially Sonia for the grilled steak and pasta salad and Adam for the brats and grillin.

MEMORIAL DAY RAMBLE IS COMING UP!

For the third year in a row the Memorial Day Ramble is set for this Monday, 9AM from my place. This is an all day 70+mile adventure tour of Waukesha and western Milwaukee counties. The route will be opposite of last years, heading east to Milwaukee first, then north and west on a variety of terrain. There will be singletrack, gravel, parkways, city streets, country roads and a parade, so come prepared. A cross or mountain bike is recommended and the pace will be leisurely. Blatz & Dogs at my house after. See ya then!

I found out early, the beer hand ups were not worth passing up. JoeJoe put up an amazing challenge. We toasted going into the 4th lap. Once we got to the hills, the PBR was working better for me then it was for him. I cruised home to pick up my 3rd woolie in a race that only exists if you were there. REMEMBERING JEFF

Services for Jeff Littmann are being held today. I didn't make it down to Cudahy, but still wanted to take a moment to reflect. Before coming to Waukesha I lived in Hartland and it was rare to do a ride in Lake Country Jeff wasn't on. I learned a lot from him in those days, not just about becoming faster but also about being responsible and respectful on the roads. It takes a lot of trust riding or racing in a pack and Jeff was always a wheel you could trust. The cycling community lost a great friend, advocate and mentor this past week and he will be missed. Ride on above us, Jeff.

Tomorrow will be the last night of Hot Laps at Lapham Peak. We'll do them right at 6 to get them done before dark, then do a social lap or two into the twilight after. Next week on will be just social rides into the night, so start charging the lights up! Cookout after as always.

It's been a tough week since our friend Jeff was hit by a car last Friday. His condition is not good so please keep him in your thoughts prayers.

UPDATE: Sadly, Jeff passed away this morning. We will be accepting donations for anyone who wants to give at the ride tomorrow and I will get them to his shop/family this week.

Grillmaster Jack has spearheaded the cookout once again, so bring something to burn on the grill and drink after the ride as we kick it around a relaxing bonfire. The last one is upon us, tomorrow at 6pm. If you haven't made it yet it won't be one to miss. Last week was one of the most painful but smooth, 38 miles in 1:40! We'll see, maybe the last two weeks of racing took its toll, maybe not.

Next week we switch to Lapham Peak on Wednesdays. Bring a CX or MTB. 2 social laps then 2 hot laps for those who want to. Meet there @6. We'll either cook out or hit up Delafield for food & drink after.

Lastly, mark it down- Friday September 10th is the return of Rockesha! All the traditions will be on hand- preride Blatz at my place, bell ringing past Carroll U, mass on Sunset, blazing the darkway, dinner at El Ranchito, river laps and finishing up with a few "refreshment" stops.

Ramble Ride, Memorial Day

Get your gravel on!

A few updates from last years,

-Ride will start from my place, 9am. If you don't know, find someone who does.

-We're reversing the route from last year. So if you planned to ride in from MKE, you won't be able to hook up with us. Either leave early and bail near the end or plan for a good day of bonus miles.

-Mountain stage/ DFL bonus- The only substantial climb of the route is on the LC trail at Pewaukee Lake. Upon cresting the climb, everyone will have to dismount and heckle those coming up behind them. The last one up gets a big push and continues down the backside of the hill. This'll keep the group from stringing out.

-If we run across a Parade we'll stop and enjoy it.

-Being Memorial Day, we'll exercise a 'Ride of Silence' along the 1 mile stretch of New Berlin trail between Sunnyslope & Moorland as it passes Veterans Park.

-Post ride- Brats, Blatz and Bocce ball at my place. Everyone's welcome to bring a dish to pass as well!

Plan for an all day event. Bring a 'cross, touring or lightly treaded MTB. We'll be riding all kinds of terrain- gravel, singletrack and even Milwaukee county roads, so a fancy road bike won't cut it. The pace won't be fast but may be steady at times, dress comfortably for a long day. Email me with questions.

The warmer the weather the bigger the guns! Snap, krackle, POP! I dangled off the driving break half way through the ride while Joe, Brandon & Maciej drove the pace into oblivion. Waited on Mill for the chase group with Greg and rolled in spent. As always, Blatz was enjoyed and the pizza was well earned. What doesn't kill you, makes you faster. That's how we roll.

After one of the sweetest sunset rides I can remember, my frame was silently pronounced deceased Saturday after the discovery of a fatal chainstay crack during late night race prep. Maybe I jinxed myself. I will say I learned so much and accomplished more than I ever dreamed possible through the experiences with this bike. Even the failure itself is part of the learning process. I'm at a bit of a cross roads now. Or maybe its just the push I need. One things for certain though..

Another fun day in the city. Aris ripped our legs off while politely guiding us, Michael hung on all day(awesome!) I crashed Greg, but otherwise we all survived. While work may have kept me from most of this weekends festivities, I still managed to get some good bike time in with some good people. Sounds like H8TR was a blast and props to the Polska boys for taking the team trophy! Missed out on trail work (and will again next week since I'll be here.), but can't say enough about what the crew down there is getting done! Good things are happening at the Kettles every weekend and if you want to be a part of it, check it out here- southernkettles.org. Basically, all you have to do is be at Emma Carlin at 8:30a, dig in the dirt with some cool people for 3 hours, maybe win some swag and ride your bike after. That simple. Also going on next Saturday (if you're a girl) is the WORS Womens event at Lapham Peak. Looks like they're going to have something for everyone and if I was a girl I'd go too. If you're also interested in helping improve the trails at Lapham Peak, let me know! Lastly, if you're still pining for the road, our Tuesday Nite Gun Show (Waukesha's Premier road ride) is in full swing now. Wanna test against the best?
